What the figures show
The population grew from 26.9 million in 1960 to 63.0 million in 2000, and was 2.7 times its 1960 level in 2025. Growth slowed after 2000: the population changed by +13.5% between 2000 and 2019, and by −0.2% between the peak year, 2022, and 2025.
About this data
These are World Bank figures from the World Development Indicators (indicator SP.POP.TOTL), based on the United Nations' World Population Prospects. They are mid-year estimates of everyone living in Thailand regardless of legal status or citizenship, so they are modelled rather than counted and can be revised.
Thailand's Department of Provincial Administration publishes a different figure: the number of people in the civil registration system. Registered population and resident population measure different things, so the two series do not match and should not be mixed.

SP.POP.TOTL: Total population is based on the de facto definition of population, which counts all residents regardless of legal status or citizenship. The values shown are midyear estimates. SP.POP.65UP.TO.ZS: Population ages 65 and above as a percentage of the total population. Population is based on the de facto definition of population, which counts all residents regardless of legal status or citizenship. SP.POP.0014.TO.ZS: Population between the ages 0 to 14 as a percentage of the total population. Population is based on the de facto definition of population. SP.URB.TOTL.IN.ZS: Urban population refers to people living in urban areas as defined by national statistical offices. The data are collected and smoothed by United Nations Population Division.

These are modelled mid-year estimates of residents, not the civil registration count published by Thailand's Department of Provincial Administration, which counts registered Thai nationals and differs.
